How Certification Differs from a Certificate
Compared with certificate programs, certification has three main advantages:
1. requires specific work experience,competency and education
2. requires recertification, which makes sure that you stay current in the HR profession through
continuing education
3. allows you to put the letters after your name.
In other words, certification typically consists of the three "E"s: Education, Experience and Examination.
All HRCI Certifications have earned program wide accreditation from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) USA.
SPHRi® Eligibility or Who Should Attend to Sit this Certification
The Candidate should be a current active HR Practitioner as per below; Must meet one of the following exam eligibility requirements to sit for the SPHRi exam:
• Have at least four years of experience in a professional-level HR position + a master’s degree or global equivalent,
• Have at least five years of experience in a professional-level HR position + a bachelor’s degree or global equivalent,
OR • Have a minimum of seven years of experience in a professional-level HR position + a high school diploma or global equivalent.
OR • Have a minimum of ten years professional-level
HR position + a high school diploma or global equivalent.

What it Takes to be an HR Management Professional
In addition, SPHRi candidates must demonstrate knowledge of employment law in one of the following ways:
• Holding a national or local certification (such as PHR,SPHR, GPHR, CHRP, CIPM, CAHRI-CP
etc.) that includes knowledge of employment laws, OR
• Holding a Bachelor’s degree (or global equivalent) or higher in Human Resources,OR
• Completing a university or college-level course in employment law, OR
• Completing a formal training class or certificate program in employment law sponsored by a university college, HR association or other approved training provider
Please note: Training must provide a comprehensive coverage of employment law; “legal updates” do not qualify.
Exam
COURSE & EXAM MODULES
Computer-based Testing (CBT) at a Prometric testing center.
Exam time: 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Exam length: 105 multiple-choice questions + 25 pretest questions. Language: English (Spanish Translation Aid available)

Jean de Dieu Mirukiro is a HR Practitioner. He holds an MBA, Human Resource Management as well as a good number of certifications among others Chartered HR Metrics and Data Analytics (CHRMA); Certified Professional in Human Resource International (PHRi); Certified Senior Professional in Human Resource International (SPHRi)Talent Optimization Certified Leader and Talent Optimization Consultant as well as many more.
Currently, he serves as Talent Acquisition and Development Manager, University of Global Health Equity.
He has background in academia where he served as Lecturer and Head of Department at the University of Rwanda. Following a change in his career goals, he switched from academia to HR Practitioner.
He worked as a Human Resource Management policy Specialist, Ministry of Public Service and Labour in Rwanda; HR Business Partner and founding Head, HR Department at Britam Insurance Company Rwanda Ltd.
He developed a good number of HR policies, strategies and frameworks as well as creative & innovative Talent Management Programs. He made presentations on different topics locally and Globally. He is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) as well as a Member of the American Academy of Project Management.
